Upgrades in the LTU test rig

The LTU test rig has been upgraded with a rotating torque sensor and a new system for measuring the turbine RPM. Measuring the torque and RPM during AFC executions is important as this enables quantification of how the turbine’s efficiency changes when the flow control system is activated.

Previously, the torque has been estimated using the control signal to the magnetic brake used to control the turbine RPM; however, this has turned out not to be reliable. In addition, the previous RPM measuring system has faced problems so the present upgrade will hopefully also improve the stability and repeatability of the test rig.
