Stiftelsen Porjus Vattenkraftcenter

ABOUT US

Porjus Hydropower Centre in northern Sweden is the only non-commercial training centre in the world to be based on a functioning hydroelectric power plant.

The centre, founded in 1994 by Kvaerner Turbin AB, the Swedish State Power Board, Vattenfall, and ABB Generation AB, offers facilities for research and development in the hydropower field and for training staff in the operation and maintenance of hydroelectric plants under realistic conditions.

The centre hosts a world unique prototype test facility with two 10 MW units exclusively dedicated to research and education.

The centre is today own by Vattenfall, Andritz and GE renewable.

MAIN TASKS IN THE PROJECT

PORJ will provide access to a 10 MW Kaplan prototype turbine station at the Porjus Hydropower Center where all the subsystems (IPM, ICM, SHM and Controller) will be tested and the final AFC system will be validated at full scale. PORJ will be an active partner in the consortium in all the WPs, contributing with personnel and laboratory resources as well as knowledge and data.
