WP1 IPM
Injection of Pulsating Momentum
ABOUT
The objective of this work package is to investigate the possibility to mitigate pressure pulsations in hydraulic turbine by the injection of pulsating momentum (IPM). The concept will be investigated experimentally and numerically at different scales in the following order; reduced model (Re»104), turbine model (Re»106), 10 MW prototype turbine and 200 MW prototype turbine.
The numerical simulations will be performed at Luleå university of technology (LTU) as well as the reduced model experiments. The experimental test facility of Vattenfall, Älvkarleby, will be used to perform the experiments on a model. The facilities in Porjus, Sweden and Oksla, Norway will be used to perform the prototype investigations.
Interview with Shahab Shiraghaee and Alessia Fabbri, LTU, about the IPM System and the first joint test campaign at the Vattenfall Research and Development center, in Älvkarleby, Sweden.
